Hi! My name is Rebecca DiTore. I'm first and foremost a mommy to my two little loves, Dante and Dominic (#boymom?), and now a widow to my high school sweetheart. I'm also newly engaged!
My life imploded in May of 2021 when my husband, Mike, was diagnosed with an incurable form of brain cancer. At the time, our kids were 2 years old and 6 months old and we were still navigating life with two babies. We got married on September 10, 2016.
Mike died from brain cancer 3 days after our 6 year anniversary.
In an effort to honor Mike and support other grieving families, I wrote a Memoir about my experience as a caregiver, mom of two and young widow called "I'd Still Choose You" which can be purchased on Amazon. My hope is that this book gets into the hands of someone else dealing with the isolation that comes with caregiving and partner loss.
I also founded the Michael L. DiTore Small Moments Foundation - a non-profit focused on creating small moments of joy for grieving children. Plus, I'm a part-time Grant Writer!
I don't think you can ever prepare yourself for a loved one to be diagnosed with cancer but I do think the hardships that I've experienced in my life have given me more mental strength and maturity to deal with the random, horrible situations that life throws at us to which we have little control over.
Life is scary, complicated, messy and just really freaking hard but we also have so much to be grateful for.
